haindling - und überhaupts ...

quirky, entertaining, reflective. with his distinctive musical styles, hans-jürgen buchner, alias haindling, is a legend in bavaria and beyond.

buchner received the german recording prize over 25 years ago with his very first lp “haindling 1”. since then he has recorded 15 further albums, written dozens of movie scores and performed countless concerts. the movie haindling will be the first feature-length documentary about this extraordinary musician to be shown in theaters. it will also be broadcast on the occasion of his 70th birthday in December 2014. buchner granted exclusive access to his home for the film, where we not only see him at work in his studio, but also get to know the man behind the artist. unpublished songs and exclusive film material of his shows in china will complete the portrait of this fascinating, profound and entertaining musician.

unlike any other artist, buchner has contributed greatly to build a bavarian music scene free of kitsch, one that is alive, creative and pioneering. he is certainly one of bavaria's most famous artists – up there with gerhard polt – despite being openly averse to the “mia san mia” ("we are who we are") attitude that pervades bavarian culture. his biggest hits have featured in the pop charts and people often recognize his melodies right away without necessarily knowing he created them. successfully combining folk styles with pop, world music and jazz, haindling's work ranges from poignant, unforgettable instrumentals to pop songs that run consistently on the radio despite poetic overtones and quirky lyrics.

his movie scores are also legendary, including numerous collaborations with franz xaver bogner such as the “irgendwie und sowieso” theme song, “paula” from the tv series “zur freiheit”, and his most recent collaboration with joseph vilsmeier for “bavaria”. the series “gernstl unterwegs” has featured a haindling-composed theme song since its first episode and everyone in germany knows the song “pfeif drauf”, which is not only the theme song for zdf's “die rosenheim cops” but also – in a slightly different version – the jingle for a commercial from versicherungskammer bayern, an insurance company.
